GPDPR Opt Out Posted or Updated on 17 Oct 2024

From the 1st July, the NHS will change how it shares your GP medical record. The General Practice Data for Planning and Research data extract by NHS Digital from GP Practices across England will help the NHS to improve health and care services for everyone, by collecting patient data and holding it in a central national database.

This is an upgrade to an existing similar process called GPES – General Practice Extract Service, this new data collection will be more efficient, effective, and much more frequent.

For example, patient data held in this new national database can help the NHS to:

  • monitor the long-term safety and effectiveness of care
  • plan how to deliver better health and care services
  • prevent the spread of infectious diseases
  • identify new treatments and medicines through health research

As a practice we are legally required to share this data unless the patient opts out. We must also be clear and transparent with our patients about how their data is handled and shared. There is growing concern that the general public remain largely unaware of this significant change, which is due to come into effect on 1st July 2021. We want to alert you to this change to allow you to think about your options and consider whether you wish to opt out of this data sharing.

Everything that you need to know about the new process, including how to opt out can be found here.

Please ensure you are getting your information regarding this from genuine sources - there is a link here to some myths:

If you wish to opt out then either print off the form below and hand it in to reception/post it back to Forest House Surgery by the 23rd June 2021 or pick up a form at the rception desk.
